There are many vices out there. From drugs and alcohol to gambling and sex, all people have the ability to choose the vice or vices that are and are not part of their life.

I have noticed that when people discuss their vice of choice, often they defend it by explaining the importance of moderation.

However, this is a poor and actually stupid outlook on vices. Let me explain:

Let's look at the well-known phrase "Everything in moderation".

Now let's plug in a very common vice. Alcohol.

Should there be any alcohol in the body? The objective and scientific answer to this question is a resounding "No".

Let's plug in another vice that is common. Smoking

Should there be any smoke in the body? The objective and scientific answer to this question is once again a resounding "No".

Let's do it thrice.

The vice of cocaine.

Should there be any cocaine in the body? The objective and scientific answer to this question is once again a resounding "No".

So let's go back to the phrase of "Everything in moderation".

If there should not be any of a substance in your body at all, then how can you possibly argue that you are engaging in these vices in moderation?

You simply cannot.

Any consumption of a substance that should not be in your body at any level is by definition excess.

This blog post is not made to judge you. It is made for you to think and carefully pick your vices.

To those who use the argument of "Everything in moderation", please stop. It is an invalid response and holds no water.

I'm also not telling you to quit your vice or shame your vice.

All you have to do is simply admit that what you are doing is unhealthy and unwise, but it is something that you enjoy doing.

Until next time...
